College of IST Career Services Specialist

The Office of Career Solutions and Corporate Engagement in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) is seeking an Career Services Specialist, Advanced Professional. Reporting to the Director of Career Solutions and Corporate Engagement , the successful candidate will:
  • Advise students in the College of IST on how to identify and secure internship/co-op and full-time opportunities.
  • Provide comprehensive career related student services such as building resumes, resume critiques, internship search, job search, career exploration, and interview preparation.
  • Responsible for the review and approval of required internships for all 6 majors within the College of IST and management of the Career's mailbox.
  • Be responsible for the development, management, and grading of the IST 495 internship course including tracking and reviewing all deliverables through Smartsheet for both the World Campus and University Park students.
  • Collect and report internship engagement and employment data.
  • Engage with all members of the Career Solutions Team on programs and applications that help better prepare students for their careers, including ways to demonstrate the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) core competencies.
  • Collaborate with and support the Assistant Director of Professional Development in creating, presenting, and facilitating career related workshops and programs for students, faculty and staff.
  • Support employers by helping to educate on best practices when establishing and operating internship/co-op programs to meet the requirement of the College of IST.
  • Support and develop career related events including, but not limited to, the IST specific career fairs.
  • Work with marketing and social media to develop materials that promote career resources, internships requirements information, and student success.
  • Assist with advising, training, and developing the IST career ambassador program to continue to offer services and support the Career Solution's team.
  • Assist with advising the IST Career Development Organization student organization to help student develop career readiness skills.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams.
  • Preferred experience with Symplicity and Smartsheet.
  • Experience working with students regarding job readiness and job placement.
  • Experience developing and leading workshops or courses related to job placement.
  • Awareness of and ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills as they relate to working with students.
  • Marketing/social media knowledge preferred.
