Job Description Summary

The Coordinator, Classroom Technology is responsible for supporting audio-visual technologies in all classrooms, meeting rooms and events facilities at all college sites. This role includes installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of AV equipment including the setup and break-down of equipment for special events as needed. A primary responsibility of this position is to provide initial response and resolution of classroom technology issues. This position has supervisory oversight of technical staff.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates degree or equivalent formal training in related field.
  • Four years of experience in the field supervising and delivering analog and digital audio-visual technology services.
  • Extensive experience with digital consoles.
  • Experience reading wiring diagrams and system design drawings. InfoComm CTS certification desired, Crestron, AMX and, Extron level one programming certificate desired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Responsible for supporting classroom technologies college-wide, including extension centers, through the installation, repair, and maintenance of such technologies.
  • Oversee and support Virtual Meetings and Events in classrooms and event spaces.
  • Assist with Hybrid and Virtual Meetings training and coordination.
  • Measure, track, and evaluate employee progress through the training curriculum to assess if the individual is ready to perform the needed work.
  • Assists in the hiring, training and supervision of college hourly and student staff.
  • Responsible for the security of equipment and facilities under his/her immediate supervision.
  • Performs hardware maintenance.
  • Documents and tracks equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Researches products and vendors and recommends the purchase of new equipment and supplies and repair of existing equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of current, state-of-the-art technologies in areas relevant to classroom, meeting and event technologies; including but not limited to, presentation systems, audio/video equipment, and streaming media.
  • Supervises project implementations from requirements through engineering to user acceptance.
  • Ensures timely and accurate data collection of supervised staff.
  • Installs updated programming to AV control systems (e.g. AMX, Crestron, Extron, etc).
  • Modifies and uploads programming to Audio Bi-Amps.
  • Attends workshops and training to enhance job-related skills.
  • Delivers, sets up, and/or operates, installs and maintains audio visual equipment for classroom needs and college sponsored activities or meetings as needed.
  • Functions as primary point-of-contact for immediate response to classroom technology requests for assistance with software, hardware and network problems.
  • Provides technology support and solutions for classrooms, campus events and conferences.
  • Instructs/trains and provides assistance to faculty, staff, administration and the community patrons with AV-related technology issues.
  • Works various events, from large productions to small, as required. Duties may include Front of House mixing, stage mixing, general load-in, set-up, and load-out.
  • Provides on-sight technical support for Board of Trustee and senior college leadership meetings.
  • Provide incident management for the extension centers, which includes accurate and timely processing of incidents, problems, inquiries, change and service requests.
  • Initiates regular extension center visits to review and ensure that classroom technology needs are met.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with hardware and software vendors to verify timely product delivery and ensures that new equipment is installed and ready to operate on schedule.
  • Assists with recycling of retired technology assets.
  • Develops and oversee the production of classroom handouts, instructional materials, aids and manuals to assist end-users and to respond to incident ticket data.
  • Tracks, receives and inspects new equipment and supplies.
  • Deploys, maintains and supports desktop hardware and software, telephones, mobile devices printers, copiers and other electronic equipment.
  • Assist with the installation, operation, and maintenance of network and telecommunications phone systems
  • Assists or performs equipment repair and maintenance services on a regular or emergency basis.
  • Develops user's guidelines, system operations procedures, and general documentation.
  • Assists in the evaluation, purchase and maintenance of classroom technologies, including the preparation of all supporting or budgeting documentation.
  • Prepares reports and attends meetings as requested.
  • Contributes effectively to a positive work environment and promotes and models a team approach in the conduct of daily operations within Enterprise Technology.
  • Recommends and implements changes in work processes to improve the quality and effectiveness of services delivered.
  • Reinforces and maintains high ethical standards of conduct and procedures to assist in ensuring the security of the college's technology assets and data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Strong leadership skills overseeing union, and non-union employees. Experience with training, scheduling, and supervising and employee performance management.
  • Organizational skills related to maintaining inventories and scheduling of events and services.
  • Ability to troubleshoot desktop computers and laptops.
  • Detailed knowledge of current audio-visual technologies (analog and digital).
  • Ability to work with Windows, Apple OSX, and Dos Operating Systems.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting basic PC issues and audio-visual technologies.
  • Tracks compliance of licenses in the distribution of software.
  • Basic knowledge of deployment of Crestron, AMX, and Extron programming modules.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Tracks compliance of licenses in the distribution of AV software.
  • Capable of pulling CAT5e/6 cables, A/V cables and fiber optic cables without damaging cable casings.
  • Ability to crimp and solder various AV cable connectors. Experience soldering and terminating Phoenix connectors and XLR connectors is a must.
  • Proficiency in using collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Webex and Zoom.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required to install, repair or troubleshoot AV-related technologies.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, but occasionally they required to lift and carry equipment that can weigh up to 50 pounds and setup computer equipment which involves pushing and pulling heavy carts, bending and crawling under desks for wire hookup and management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
