Overview

The mission of Princeton University Department of Athletics is to strive for excellence in academics and athletics, while embracing equity in opportunity, good sportsmanship, and ethical conduct. In keeping with this mission, the role of the Assistant Performance Coach is to support Division I varsity programs and club programs that challenge and develop the physical, mental and personal abilities of student-athletes.

This is a temporary position.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist full-time performance staff with all aspects of operations including but not limited to the following: team trainings, sports science and monitoring facilities.
  • Effectively develop 12-month sport specific training programs for up to two varsity intercollegiate programs and two club programs.
  • Effectively develop training programs including but not limited to the following modalities: warm-ups, strength, speed, agility, energy-system conditioning, flexibility/ mobility.
  • Administer continuous testing and evaluations of student-athletes on a routine basis.
  • Provide direct instruction to all student-athletes, as well as providing assessment and documentation tools, in order to assure proper explanation of training techniques.
  • Conduct orientation sessions for assigned teams by effectively explaining and demonstrating modalities of physical training.
  • Develop strength and conditioning manuals used by off- term and/or summer student-athletes.
  • Coordinate and communicate training facility schedules with Performance Staff.
  • Effectively communicate with Athletic Medicine Staff and Sports RD to ensure and maintain safety of student-athletes.
  • Maintain and enforce policies and procedures for use and risk management of all intercollegiate training facilities.
  • Assist Performance Staff with fueling station duties.
  • Work in conjunction with sport coaching staff(s) in order to implement all aspects of training including scheduling, technique training, supervision, and goal setting.
  • Develop maintenance schedule for equipment, perform and document periodic equipment safety checks, and remove from use any unsafe equipment.


Qualifications

Qualifications

  • CSCS Certified (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Successful background in coaching strength and conditioning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to design and implement strength and conditioning programs, specifically for Women’s Varsity Rugby and Men’s Club Rugby.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and coaching to large groups.
  • Proficiency with MS office products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Possess the ability to work within the Department of Athletics and to communicate effectively with other coaches, students, administrators and medical training staff athletes of a Division I program.
  • Adhere to Ivy League, ECAC and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Olympic Weightlifting Certification (USAW or Totten Training Systems) preferred.
  • Advanced degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred.
