Position: Professional Specialist

Description: Professional Specialist The Princeton Visual AI lab is looking for a Professional Specialist to assist with research on trustworthy computer vision. The Professional Specialist will participate in the full research pipeline including fundraising, project management, supporting lab operations, mentoring students, collaborating and (if desired) leading research projects. They will need to understand the big picture research goals and support the full breadth of research efforts in the lab. In addition, they will participate more deeply in a smaller set of research projects that are aligned with their unique expertise. Key responsibilities: *Support the lab's interdisciplinary research: project manage complex teams involving multiple PIs, students and other researchers; code/prototype relevant analysis methods (including setting clear goals, measuring progress and creating appropriate documentation); serve as the lab's representative with external entities such as data collection companies (e.g., Upwork, SuperAnnotate, Appen), including helping to negotiate contracts (working closely with the Princeton procurement and legal teams); work with IT professional to maintain an up-to-date compute environment for the lab (including the local compute cluster and/or cloud compute credits) [40%] *Oversee the lab's fundraising pipeline: work closely with the PI to identify relevant calls for research funding, prepare and submit grant applications, set and enforce appropriate research timelines for all grant participants, take the lead on communicating results and impact to all stakeholders [40%] *Mentor students: support undergraduate and graduate student training, e.g., supervise students on research projects aligned with the Professional Specialist's expertise, train new students on research fundamentals (e.g., compute cluster usage, software engineering); train, support and oversee students in their leadership efforts (e.g., running reading groups, organizing lab meetings, spearheading outreach activities, hosting invited speakers); ensure effective operation of student lab committees [20%] Required qualifications: *PhD in computer science or related technical discipline *Minimum 3 years' experience with fundraising in an academic setting *Minimum 3 years' experience with project management of complex teams *Strong background in machine learning and/or computer vision, at minimum being able to read and synthesize the lab's latest research papers *Strong coding/algorithm prototyping skills, and ability to explain and document work *Proficiency in Python *Exceptional time management, attention to detail, and ability to proactively manage deadlines *Excellent ability to seamlessly interact with diverse stakeholders: the PI, trainees (undergraduate, graduate, postdocs, high school students), collaborators (academic, industry, nonprofit), computer science department staff (technical support, grants management, business), other entities on campus (legal, IRB, procurement) *Excellent scientific writing skills Additional desired qualifications: *Experience with IRB applications and human studies *Experience teaching or mentoring students *Experience with front-end UI development Please include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information of three references.
