The managing editor at Religion News Service occupies a wide-ranging editorial role, sharing broad leadership of the RNS newsroom with the editor-in-chief, including shaping an editorial voice and vision, conducting long-term editorial and budget planning, facilitating staff development and coordinating with the publisher and business staff. The managing editor leads daily and weekly editorial staff meetings, manages deadlines and maintains workflow in the course of the day and across the week. This is a remote position and can be based anywhere in the United States, though the Eastern Seaboard is preferred.

Responsibilities
•Assist editor-in-chief in planning and executing coverage of religion and
faith around the world, spotting trends and identifying breaking news
stories.
•Assign, track and line-edit staff and freelance stories for daily report.
•Identify, recruit and develop new staff reporters and interns.
•Track and manage projects funded by grants from major donors to
assure compliance with grant goals and timely completion.
•Work with RNS partners, including The Associated Press, National
Public Radio and others on collaborative journalism projects.
•Occasionally represent RNS editorial in panel discussions, media
appearances, conferences, and the like.

Requirements
•Bachelor's degree
•7+ years of journalism experience delivering to multiple platforms.
•Strong knowledge of and experience covering one or more religions
and a familiarity with the broader religion landscape, especially in the
U.S.
•Familiarity with web publishing, interest in engagement metrics and
ideas for growing readership.
•Experience managing budgets.
•Strong project management skills.
•Experience managing and motivating small teams in a fast-paced
creative environment.
