Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College, as a comprehensive institution of higher education, dedicates its services to area citizens. This position serves as the Educational Foundation’s Business Manager to ensure that all foundation records are kept in an audit acceptable manner and according to Generally Accepted Accounting Policies and Procedures. Directly responsible for all accounting and reporting for extensive private, state and federal donations and scholarship funds.
KSA’s/Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree with major studies in accounting or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP).
- Knowledge of the use of data processing techniques, including software programs, to maintain and control accounting records.
- Ability to understand, analyze, and apply accounting principles and methods as they relate to the college’s financial transactions.
- Ability to assemble, analyze, and prepare financial reports and statements.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet software.
- Experience in accounting, analyzing financial transactions, computer skills, and financial statement preparation.
- Working knowledge of advance accounting principles and practices and competency in accounting for higher education.
- Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and grants management.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze fiscal transactions for conformity with procedures and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare financial reports and statements.
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with college officials, central office personnel, department employees, and donors.
- Knowledge of automated techniques and modern business practices.
- Ability to maintain a high level of ethics and confidentiality in performance of all job duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with non-profit organizations.
- Experience working in a community college setting.
