We're looking for a Mental Health Professional or Practitioner for our school-based CTSS program in Cass Lake, MN.

The Mental Health Practitioner is responsible to provide individual, group, and/or family skills as determined by a diagnostic assessment for children and adolescents experiencing mental health issues, communication challenges, or family conflict. Clinical supervision is provided by a mental health professional. Day to day supervision is provided by the school principal and the Stellher program coordinator.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Receives, reviews and screens referrals for services in accordance with district and school procedures.
  • Obtains and completes intake form, privacy notice, releases and other required documentation with the family.
  • Participates in treatment planning and reviews, provides recommendations to the student's team regarding client goals, objectives and interventions.
  • Implements the assigned interventions in each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Individual Treatment Plan (ITP).
  • Conducts social skills, life skills and group skills training to children and adolescents with an emotional disturbance and their families.
  • Maintains detailed daily progress notes, logs, reports and other required documentation on services provided and on each client's response to interventions.
  • Incorporates family members into the development and implementation of Individual Treatment Plans and activities for child. Accommodates the family in scheduling family and individual sessions and related activities.
  • Makes referrals for other needed services and coordinates treatment with other district and community services that the family is receiving.
  • Performs work as part of a team with the parents, special education teachers, mental health professional, case manager, and other support staff.
  • Assists families in developing and utilizing a crisis management plan when needed.
  • Implements approved de-escalation techniques as directed by the M.H. Professional.
  • Communicates personal and cultural respect to child and family.
  • Conducts activities related to compliance with federal and state laws related to mandated reporting, HIPAA, and the Data Privacy Act.
  • Treats clients and coworkers with dignity and respect.
  • Works as part of a team to promote a culture of continuous improvement and commitment to the mission of the organization.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, and cultures and their history and origins.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Able to work independently within established guidelines and with limited supervision and assistance.
  • Able to travel to and from meetings with families, school officials, and other agencies.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with other professionals in verbal and written formats.

Education and Experience:

Mental Health Professional (Preferred) -

Master's degree in one of the behavioral sciences and licensed under Minnesota Statues as a psychologist, clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, or psychiatric nurse.

Mental Health Practitioner -

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and 2000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to recipients with mental illness or substance use disorder required.
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences or related fields and has completed an internship/practicum with direct interaction with adult or child clients.
  • Has 4000 hours of work experience in the delivery of services to adults or children with a mental illness or substance use disorder.
