Position: Information Literacy and Research Librarian (Assistant Professor)

Stetson University seeks an innovative and dynamic Information Literacy and Research Librarian for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor. The ideal candidate has a desire to work collaboratively with a small team of librarians in a place where you can make a difference. The Information Literacy and Research Librarian is responsible, through the application of established policies and procedures, for providing and coordinating information literacy instruction and will provide research help services. The successful candidate is conversant with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, understands learning theory, and leverages technology to teach information literacy and research skills.  Expertise in instructional design with an understanding of active engaged learning is especially desired. In addition to practicing the specific skill sets described below, the librarian in this position will participate in the professional activities and University service required of a tenure-track faculty member.

Qualifications:  

Master of Library & Information Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution is required, second Master’s degree preferred.  Experience with information literacy instruction services and reference services is preferred. 

The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends in information literacy instruction in academic libraries; demonstrated teaching or presentation experience and the ability to contribute to a growing and changing information literacy instruction program; effective communication, interpersonal, presentation, organizational, and analytical skills; ability to manage projects and meet deadlines; and the ability to work flexibly and creatively. All Stetson librarians are expected to contribute to general reference and research services and function well as a member of a collaborative team. 

In addition, the successful candidate should have the demonstrated potential or ability to engage in publication and professional service to meet University tenure and promotion requirements.

Responsibilities: 

This position reports to the Director of Public Services. Duties include teaching information literacy classes, coordinating requests for library instruction, and on-call research assistance shifts. Instruction and research services require occasional night and weekend shifts. The Information Literacy and Research Librarian will be expected to give special attention to the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and assesses the library’s information literacy instruction program, in consultation with research librarians. Works with established University committees to assess information literacy learning in the general education program and in the University’s Quality Enhancement Project, Bridging the Gap: Enhancing Information Literacy (https://www.stetson.edu/other/qep/).
  • Advocates for the library’s role in student learning, including working with faculty to incorporate information literacy and library research skills into their courses.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to design, create, and maintain various learning objects, information literacy modules, and online tutorials to integrate into the library’s instruction program.
  • Engages librarians who provide instruction services in discussions about instructional design, pedagogy, technology tools, and relevant professional development.
  • Maintains currency regarding reference, research, and database sources and tools.

The duPont-Ball Library:

The duPont-Ball Library (https://stetson.edu/library) has a collection of approximately 250,000 print volumes and large collections of electronic journals, databases, and e-books, as well as a collection of scores and recordings in support of the School of Music. The library staff includes 8 library faculty members and 16 support staff.  The library is a member of LYRASIS and uses OCLC’s WMS system. The ongoing library fundraising program has resulted in library endowments totaling about $5M.  Librarians are tenure-track faculty members who hold leadership positions on campus committees and are actively engaged in scholarly activities, professional organizations, and service.

Salary:  Salary is competitive.
