Overview
This position will report directly to the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Director, and provide management level support for all EHS initiatives at Sun Tribe. Supporting two of our corporate core values, you will be directly responsible for supporting all Sun Tribe EPC construction activities and assisting in the development and continuous improvement of the Sun Tribe Environmental Management System and Safety Management System.
As an EHS Manager, your role will help develop EHS programs, execute EHS related needs, plan and solve EHS compliance requirements, and measure our success through collecting data and identifying needs. You will also be a team member of each project as a point of contact for environmental, health and safety needs and work with the project management, field operations team, and our subcontracted partners to bolster an effective EHS program. As a member of the EHS team, opportunities will be provided and encouraged for professional development and will be key to Sun Tribe's growth and success.
The EHS Manager position reports directly to the EHS Director and works closely with other key staff, including engineering, supply chain, field operations, and project management with the ultimate goal of achieving a vision of success through safe, healthy work practices and environmental stewardship. This position is estimated to spend up to 60% of time in the field, with occasional overnight travel throughout Virginia and the District of Columbia.

You Will
- Foster a positive EHS culture that promotes transparency, learning and open conversation with all team members and subcontractor parties
- Perform and manage schedule of periodic environmental, health and safety focused inspections on ST EPC construction projects
- Produce site safety and environmental inspection reports and compiles related metrics
- Develop and deliver weekly safety continuing education as needed
- Assess client-specific EHS requirements and performs gap and needs analysis for on-site projects
- Assist Field Operations in the successful planning and roll out of on-site EHS infrastructure during mobilization and throughout active construction
- Lead the development of project specific safety and environmental plans for each project including (but not limited to):
- Emergency Action Plans
- Site EHS orientation presentations
- PPE/safety requirement signage
- Site EHS forms/binders
- Assist in the development of Sun Tribe EHS Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Track, coordinate and/or perform required EHS related training for Sun Tribe EPC members
- Be "on-call" (at least by phone) during construction projects for incident response coordination
- Coordinates logistics between project stakeholders and local emergency response entities in project locations
- Manage regulatory and client-required EHS communication and documentation
- Conduct Project Site Safety Orientations, as needed
Basic Qualifications
- Relevant work experience: Minimum 3 years of experience working in Safety, Environmental Science, or related field where EHS responsibilities were the primary responsibility required
- EHS-related credential required, such as CHST, OSHA 500 outreach trainer, or other related professional board recognized certifications
- Experience managing and maintaining construction storm water and erosion and sediment control programs preferred
Skills & Experience
- Experience in construction industry (civil and/or electrical construction experience a plus)
- Experience with two of the four: 1) managing various EHS compliance programs (such as hazardous waste, storm water, occupational safety, etc.) based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations; 2) experience in completing industrial hygiene assessments and sampling; 3) oversight and assessment of third-party subcontractors; and/or 4) implementation of EHS management systems (e.g. ISO 14001, OSHA VPP)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization are a must
- Ability to solve complex problems by: actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems; mastering unfamiliar information, tasks and situations quickly and effectively
