Job Description:


SUNY Empire seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the field of accounting to join the Department of Accounting/Economics/Finance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the department and participate in the offering of programs in accounting that serve learners across New York State and, through the university's robust online course offerings, around the world. The department has teaching needs in Introductory Accounting I and II, Intermediate Accounting I and II, Cost Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Federal Income Tax I and II, Auditing, and other related courses. Full time faculty in the undergraduate programs at SUNY Empire have responsibilities for student advising (mentoring), in addition to teaching and research! responsibilities. Teaching assignments are expected to be a mix of face-to-face, hybrid and online.

Responsibilities:
  • Developing and teaching face-to-face and online courses in Accounting.
  • Offering independent studies in the field of Accounting.
  • Mentoring and advising students as they develop degree programs.
  • Participating in curriculum development and academic assessment in the Department of Accounting/Economics/Finance.
  • Participation in university service.
  • Development and maintenance of an active research agenda.

Requirements:


Required Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Accounting from an institutionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university OR a Ph.D. in Finance with an M.S. in Accounting.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative faculty environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • C.P.A. license (must be an active license).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning.
  • Professional experience in the accounting field.
  • Experience in online and blended teaching modalities.
  • A record of scholarly engagement and an established research agenda.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
Special Information:
  • Some evening and/or weekend engagement with students may be required.
  • Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs.
  • Some travel and overnights required (2-4 nights per year to attend university-wide meetings).
  • SUNY Empire provides employees with robust remote and flexible work options to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff in a dispersed work environment. The preferred location is Saratoga Springs, NY. Other university locations may be considered, including Rochester and Long Island (Selden).

Additional Information:


Rank/Salary: Tenure-track, Assistant Professor, 12-month appointment, $100,000.
