Job Description:


Empire State University, Office of Communications, seeks a full-time Social Media and Digital Content Manager (State Title: Staff Assistant), to provide overall direction and strategy of the university's social media platforms. The social media and digital content manager assesses which social networks will offer the university maximum reach and best ROI to meet the department's strategic goals, then develops plans for each one. This position will report to the director of communications and work closely with the communications, marketing, and events teams, as well as with departments and programs across the university and outside vendors.

Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee creation of high-quality organic social media strategy and content, including copy, photo, and video, to support the goals of the university, Office of Communications, and OEM.
  • Help create a year-round organic social media calendar, revising as needed based on university need, world happenings, and other events.
  • Pull monthly metrics on social media platform performance and adjust strategy accordingly.
  • Create and execute a year-round blog schedule, providing or delegating writing assistance as needed.
  • Provide photo and informal video coverage of events as needed (including those held on evenings and weekends) for the purpose of social media posting.
  • Work on tight deadlines to create and post quickly when needed.
  • Help coordinate, curate, and edit photos and footage submitted by members of the university community for social media.
  • Accurately and professionally monitor and respond to/engage with organic social media comments and inquiries and seek assistance and support when needed.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to arrange assets needed for social media planning and posting.
  • Write and edit accurate social media content that is grammatically correct and adheres to university style and social policy.
  • Train university staff, as necessary, on social media and social media tools.
  • Act as an advisor to qualified/approved university units wishing to establish a social media account.
  • Keep up to date with pertinent editing and social media creation and monitoring tools (Canva, Sprout, etc.).
  • Support departments across the university with social media needs.
  • Act as a liaison between Office of Communications and social platform/resource providers for upgrade, transition and implementation needs when researching, procuring, and implementing new social media services, resources, and tools.
  • Engage university audience by starting and monitoring conversations relating to our university and brand.
  • Mitigate or de-escalate negative commentary on our social platforms.
  • Develop guidelines for groups/schools/departments who want to launch a social media feed, including best practices.

Requirements:


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years' experience in a similar role within communications/social media fields.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
  • Portfolio of social media work.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior expertise with Sprout Social and Canva.
Special Information:
  • This position is located in Saratoga Springs, NY. In-person presence is required.
  • Occasional overnight travel, weekend, and evening obligations is required.

Additional Information:


Rank/Salary: SL2 / $57,000-$60,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.
