SQL SERVER DBA/DEVELOPER 

Richmond, Virginia 

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking an experienced SQL Server DBA/Developer in its Data Solutions group. Working within a team of application development professionals, the DBA/Developer owns the design, development, implementation, integrity, and support of the enterprise database architecture, databases, and programs that support the Partnership. This position reports to our Richmond office and will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Identify requirements, design/develop/implement server architecture, data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas
  • Design, develop, and implement database objects (i.e., tables, stored procedures, packages, and triggers)
  • Perform MS SQL Server installs and patching utilizing best practices
  • Proactively monitor database health, executing maintenance packages, and applying indexing, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and security
  • Manage the deployment of database scripts across environments
  • Provide strategic direction for database management and security
  • Manage application data interactions with the Development Team through REST- based service layer
  • Perform complex query tuning and schema refinement
  • Create and manage ETLs
  • Design and develop reports
  • Prepare and maintain storage management plans, including routine backups, long-term archives, and disaster recovery support
  • Develop and maintain system documentation and guidelines
  • Research and evaluate new products and development needed to support ongoing needs of organization

Experience and Skills:

  • 3-5 years in database design, development, optimization, and administration of MS SQL Server
  • Education, training, and experience in information systems is essential
  • Experience with MS SQL Server (including SSIS and SSRS) 2019 or newer
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, etc.
  • Strong communication skills to support all project phases, in particular, technical, and business requirement discussions
  • Candidate should be self-motivated, organized, independent, and proactive
  • Experience with Redgate, database replication, data mart or data warehouse knowledge, or experience with managing and migrating databases in Azure are a plus
