Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Department of Biostatistics, Health Informatics & Data Science is hiring a self-motivated, team-oriented, and dedicated individual to apply for a part-time (up to 21 hours/week) Research Fellow position.

The purpose of this Research Fellowship is to gain understanding and advanced knowledge research methods and application of the theoretical knowledge from academic training, evaluate strengths and identification of limitations, development and refinement of research skills consistent with experience in informatics research.

The primary job responsibility involves project management and coordination and supporting quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, with a goal to develop informatics solutions to address clinical and health problems. The successful candidates will report to Dr. Danny T.Y. Wu, the Director of the Innovative Clinical Data Capture and Use laboratory (iCDCU Lab).

Essential Functions
  • Assist with the coordination of research studies in clinical and health informatics in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations.
  • Make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience.
  • Solve problems using combined research knowledge.
  • Organize data collection and analysis procedures.
  • Perform statistical and visual analysis of data, interpret data, and assist in judging validity of data.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of complex data capture and processing systems.
  • Support manuscript and proposal writing.
  • Contribute to the collective team effort.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education

Bachelor's Degreein medical sciences, health sciences, or related field.

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Knowledge and training in medical and health sciences with experience in informatics research.
  • Co-authorship of peer-reviewed publications or certification in medical, clinical, or health informatics is ideal.
  • Practical knowledge and experience in the following areas:
    • Manipulating data using either Python Pandas or Structure Query Language (SQL).
    • Analyzing electronic health records (EHRs) and patient-generated health data (PGHD).
    • Conducting statistical analysis and hypothesis testing.
    • Supporting the development of R statistical computing scripts and R-shiny applications.
    • Supporting data analysis using qualitative methods such as coding, thematic analysis, affinity diagramming, and process mapping.
