JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the First Year Experience (FYE) program director, the Assistant Director of First Year Experience, Student Development Specialist (Educational Program Administrator) creates and executes student leadership development programming for three distinct groups within the FYE program, establishes and engages the FYE alumni network, advises regional campus FYE coordinators, strategizes and executes department web and social media presence, and coordinates support and engagement opportunities beyond the classroom for first-year students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and enhance FYE Student Leadership Program curriculum.
  • Collaborate with regional coordinators to advise on best practices and support the development of peer mentoring programs on their campuses.
  • Recruit, interview, select, and pair FYE mentors, TAs, and STAs each year.
  • Serve as primary chapter advisor for Alpha Lambda Delta National Honors Society, helping the Executive Board to manage finances, plan and execute events, recruit new members, and execute the annual induction ceremony.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and provide professional development for Student Administrative Assistants in FYP office.
  • Develop all student leaders during each semester, assessing their progress and providing individualized and responsive training throughout their experience.
  • Stay informed of best, evidence-based instructional methodologies, issues impacting first-gen, low-income, underrepresented student populations and international students, along with opportunities and trends at the university and in the workforce, ensuring that Student Leader development programming is responsive and meeting student needs.
  • Develop, coordinate, and execute multiple-day summer training for FYE Mentors, TAs, and STAs.
  • Teach EPSY 3020 and 3090 in Fall; EPSY 3098 in Spring.
  • Teach multiple sections of FYE (UNIV 1800) in Fall and Spring.
  • Research and provide opportunities for student leaders to engage in professional development, conferences, scholarships, field trips, internships, etc.
  • Collaborate with Experiential Global Learning to execute study abroad programming for student leaders.
  • Establish and regularly engage alumni network, forging connections between past FYE student leaders, current student leaders, and first year students.
  • Establish and advertise FYE office hours open to first-year students for any issue (staffed by student leaders).
  • Create structure for and oversee continued mentorship opportunities for UConn students beyond their first year.
  • Develop, advertise, and execute programming for first-year students that goes beyond the class (socials, study sessions, cultural events, etc.).
  • Plan and execute senior send-off event.
  • Monitor Concern and Create form and serve as first point of contact for first-year student support and advocacy.
  • Send midterm warning grades and Dean's list students to instructors, providing guidance and follow-up for outreach and support.
  • Create records of student leaders in Nexus and FYE participants in StudentAdmin.
  • Attend meetings of the Faculty Courses and Curriculum Oversight Board and record minutes.
  • Work with Curriculum and Instructor Development Specialist to create annual reports of first-year student engagement and performance outcomes, disaggregating for special student populations.
  • Manage and update the department website.
  • Monitor and respond to department email.
  • Coordinate and execute department social media strategy.
  • Create promotional materials for FYE programming in virtual and hardcopy formats.
  • Serve as a mentor for the UConn Connects Program each semester.
  • Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Master's degree in education or related field.
  2. Two to three years of experience working with students in a higher education setting beyond the classroom, with at least 1 year of experience working as an advanced team member.
  3. Knowledge of college student development theory.
  4. Teaching experience in higher education.
  5. Experience working with diverse student populations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide support for college students.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  8. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  9. Ability to work in a team environment.
  10. Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or irregular hours to support programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Volunteer management experience.
  2. Experience teaching a First Year Experience Course.
  3. Supervisory experience.

This is a full-time, permanent position. The starting salary for this position is $64,000.
