Job Description Summary:
The School of Nursing seeks a full-time Improving Dementia Care Post-Doctoral Fellow. The position will join Kristine N. Williams, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, FGSA, FAAN and her investigative team whose expertise in Communication and Aging and training to reduce elderspeak are internationally recognized. The Improving Dementia Care Postdoctoral Fellow will become an active member of our multidisciplinary and multisite team working on multiple NIH-funded studies developing and testing interventions to improve dementia care.

The IDCPDF will be primarily involved in our team's pragmatic clinical trials testing CHATO, a web-based communication training program for nursing home staff, effects on behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia and inappropriate use of psychoactive medication. We anticipate a funding for a new project adapting and testing CHATO in diverse nursing home staff and resident populations. The IDCPDF will be involved as a working member of the investigative team with guided experience and progressive responsibility for recruitment and coordination of participating nursing homes, procurement and outcome evaluation of Minimum Data Set and Nursing Home Quality data, and assurance and evaluation of intervention implementation. The IDCPDF will contribute to team meetings, clinical trial coordinating, data analysis and interpretation, dissemination of research findings in publications and presentations and development of research proposals.

Additional opportunities include implementation of a clinical caregiver cohort within the University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (KU ADRC), one of 33 NIH funded P30 centers. The post-doc will be supported in developing additional skills, will be integrated in team publications, and will be encouraged to develop a supplemental research project. Postdoctoral fellows will also participate in the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) postdoctoral scholar group. The initial commitment will be for a one-year period with potential extension for a second year based on outcomes. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a commitment to research to improve care of older adults across one or more LTSS settings.

Note: This position is potentially eligible for a remote or hybrid work schedule.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: PhD or equivalent terminal degree in nursing, gerontology, or related discipline.

Work Experience: Experience to writing and communicating with a scientific audience.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:
  • Prior participation on a randomized clinical trial.
  • Experience in clinical care in long term care service and support settings.
  • Experience in large data set procurement and analysis.
  • Knowledge of implementation science and/or applied research methods.
  • Experience in clinical trial studies, recruitment, and retention.
  • Clinical and/or research experience with diverse populations of older adults.
  • Experience with computer assisted behavioral coding.
  • Work with informal and formal caregivers of persons with dementia.
  • Qualitative and Quantitative research experience.


Skills
  • Strong English skills.
  • Ability to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects.
  • Evidence of initiative in independent, autonomous work.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
