Job Description Summary:
The Research Project Director will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of the Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapeutics (HMCT) research program. Directs a variety of complex activities involved in the analysis, interpretation, and communication of the program study portfolio. Frequently leads communications with other research groups or programs. Serves as primary liaison and communicator to research program or sponsor. Leads and reports on efforts to manage program and obtain program funding.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education
  • Associate's degree OR an equivalent combination of relevant post-secondary education and work experience that equals 2 years.


Certifications:
  • Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) or certification eligible
  • Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) or certification eligible


Work Experience:
  • 10 years related work experience.
  • Prior knowledge of FDA regulations, ICH-GCP guidelines and KUMC policies and practices.
  • Experience successfully leading research programs and projects.
  • Prior experience in demonstrating the ability to direct the use of measurement and reporting tools to successfully provide program or project status.
  • Experience in managing several project teams simultaneously.
  • Experience in effectively managing and competing priorities and deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications

Skills:
  • Business and financial acumen to develop budgets and manage program costs to budget.
  • Experience procuring program funding through directing grant writing, budget creation, and submission of grant requests to federal and foundation agencies.
  • Excellent communication skills; oral and written.
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills.


Job Duties Outlined:
  • Formulate and implement the short and long-range goals and objectives for the operation of the research program. Assure the goals and objectives are effectively met.
  • Direct and assure adequate skills of study team members who screen, schedule, consent, maintain subject/study level documentation, and collect adverse event information for participants in a variety of studies.
  • Serve as a resource for and provide training for others regarding preparation and conduct of study visits, creation of SOPs, and in implementing operational plans.
  • Evaluate processes to identify issues related to recruitment and retention rates, and implement innovative solutions to maximize recruitment and retention.
  • Lead development and negotiation of budgets and justifications for research program/proposals, employing strategies for long-term management of funds. Provide recommendations of allowable expenses based on financial guidelines.
  • Coordinate program activities with and communicate with various internal and external stakeholders including investigators, ancillary program officials, sponsors, and/or vendors.
  • Direct the creation, optimization and implementation of systems related to research specimens
  • Provide direction for preparation of study monitoring/audit visits and assure correction audit/monitor findings where appropriate.
  • Direct development of documents related to safety and security. Serve as an expert resource for development and implementation of RDSPs, DSMPs, and Conflict of Interest plans across multiple studies or study teams.
  • Direct development and implementation of departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Direct investigation and development of process improvement strategies to safeguard research participant safety and study compliance.
  • Assure employees in area of responsibility comply with all KUMC, regulatory and other appropriate policies and approved practices.
  • Assure employees in area of responsibility receive adequate training, performance feedback, direction, counseling and discipline as appropriate to their position and performance.
  • Report any potential deviations from policies or standard practices to the appropriate authority.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
