Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Science ( MLS) Program, Department of Health & Clinical Sciences, College of Health Sciences ( CHS) at the University of Kentucky is currently accepting applications for a full-time 11-month special title (tenure eligible) faculty member to begin employment on July 1, 2024. The Bachelors of Health Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences is one of the three undergraduate degrees in the department. The MLS Program is nationally accredited by NAACLS. The mission of the Medical Laboratory Science ( MLS) Program is to help the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond to gain and retain the highest level of health care by educating individuals to become high quality medical laboratory science practitioners and healthcare professionals. The program vision is to be a nationally recognized program for our high standard of training and high quality graduates.

Program goals designed to address the program's vision and mission are as follows:

· To graduate versatile medical laboratory scientists prepared to meet the workforce needs in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the nation.

· To graduate healthcare practitioners that demonstrate professionalism reflective of the highest ethical standard of the medical laboratory science profession.

· To provide an educational foundation that can be advanced such as in the areas of administration, academia, advanced healthcare roles, industry and research.

Primary duties of this faculty position will include teaching undergraduate courses in the MLS Program, specifically microbiology and related fields. The faculty member will also direct the online MLT to MLS Program and other roles as assigned by the Program Director and Department Chair. Additional duties include participating in service across the department, college and university levels and scholarship and research activities as appropriate for special title series. The anticipated effort for this position is Instruction 65-75%, Research/Scholarship 10-20%, Service 8-10%, Professional Development 2-5% and will be negotiated with the Department Chair annually.

Required Qualifications:
  • Medical Laboratory Sciences degree with ASCP MLS certification
  • Doctoral degree in a health sciences related field. ABD will be considered.

  • Previous experience running an online academic program
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship and/or research presentations and/or publications
