Job Description

This appointment's primary teaching and clinical focus is providing faculty support to the general surgery section in the Veterinary Health Center (VHC). Intermittent, limited support to the surgical oncology section may be required. As part of this appointment, the successful candidate will:
  • Obtain and maintainlicense to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Missouri (faculty or regular licensure) within no more than 3 months of start date, then complete DEA registration and get BNDD certificate;
  • Provide clinical instruction of students (professional), interns, and residents in general surgery and perioperative medicine;
  • Contribute to the professional and graduate curriculum by participating in classroom and laboratory instruction. Opportunities for online instruction are possible;
  • Represent the University, College, and VHC through outreach activities for animal-owning public, referring veterinarians, or other relevant stakeholders;
  • Provide consultation to off-site university-operated clinics;
  • Share with other faculty and house officers in after-hours call;
  • Participate in the discovery process by participating in clinical, resident or house officer research. Collaborative research is encouraged; and,
  • Participate in faculty governance activities.
Initial appointment will begin as soon as a well-qualified candidate can be identified and hired.

The Veterinary Health Center is a progressive environment where there is a culture of collegiality and patient care is top priority. The General Surgery Service of ureteroscopic offers surgical care for all types of advanced soft tissue procedures. We have access to top-of-the-line CT, Pet-CT, 3T MRI, and a state-of-the-art fluoroscopy suite. Rigid endoscopic and flexible equipment is utilized frequently for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Ectopic ureteral laser ablation and other interventional procedures are performed in cooperation with the Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Radiology Services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • Completion of surgical residency training by start date.
Candidates will be Evaluated on:
  • Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons or potential for Diplomate status in these organizations.
  • Educational and professional achievement.
  • Clinical experience, communication skills,a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and letters of reference will all be considered in selection of a candidate.
  • The potential for the candidate to work within the framework of the VHC Surgery Service will also be assessed, as will specialty and/or research training and teaching experience.
  • We are seeking a candidate with interest in practicing up-to-date medicine, a passion for teaching, and a desire for continual professional improvement.
