Job Description

The incumbent will be a senior member of a structural virology research team, focusing on interactions of the gene therapy vector, Adeno-associated virus (AAV), with host cells. Adeno-associated virus is the leading vector for human gene therapy and has recently been approved in treatments of SMA and hemophilia A & B. Experimental research into AAV entry and trafficking is of fundamental interest in virology and key to treatments for other genetic diseases. Our approach combines molecular genetics with cryo-Electron Microscopy. Those with training in any area of structural biophysics, molecular biology, virology or vector development are encouraged to apply. Senior team members are responsible not only for their own research but providing mentorship in the training of researchers at undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral levels, assisting when the principal investigator is busy with chair duties. The position will be financed primarily from the chair's NIH grant funding which would need competitive renewal beyond 2028.
