Job Description

The University of Missouri's Animal Modeling Core at Discovery Ridge seeks an experienced Senior Research Specialist to perform and participate in specialized technical laboratory and research procedures.

Key duties performed by this position include:
  1. Rodent colony management including animal husbandry, tagging and sample collection as well as necropsy and lab animal surgical work.
  2. Specialized reproductive biology techniques such as hormone administration, embryo collection and embryo manipulation.
  3. Cross train and assist with genotyping and molecular lab work as needed.
  4. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), analyze test results, enter data into a computer and the laboratory information system (LIMS), and maintain laboratory records.
  5. Prepare complete reports and analyses of experiments or project phases using standard procedures and guidelines--may review applicable literature to determine procedure and methods.
  6. Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory apparatus and equipment.
  7. May train and/or supervise others in operation of specialized equipment and performance of lab/research procedures.
  8. Direct and/or participate in inventory and ordering supplies, materials and equipment.
  9. Direct and/or participate in tabulation and computation of project results.
In addition, this position is expected to:
  1. Demonstrate customer service, collaboration, confidentiality, integrity and a commitment to inclusion, diversity and equal opportunity in their activities.
  2. Possess strong customer service skills and shall be committed to providing excellent fiscal support to all customers.
Collaborate and interface as needed with various campus departments including the Office of Animal Resources, the College of Veterinary Medicine and various university units.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in laboratory research, rodent handling, rodent colony management, DNA isolation, PCR, and standard molecular biology techniques is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $51,975 - $66,810 per year
Grade: GGS-9E
