Admissions Manager



The Admissions Manager is responsible for attracting and recruiting highly-qualified students to the pre-doctoral, advanced standing and residency programs of the School of Dental Medicine (SDM) at the University of Pittsburgh, and managing the processes surrounding their admission to the programs. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting and helping to guide the admissions programs within the SDM. Duties include:
- Designing, presenting, and coordinating recruitment events and materials
- Application collection and review
- Interview and acceptance processes
- Coordination with financial partners and the Scholarship Committee to optimize use of available funds to attract top candidates
- Coordination of admitted student programming events; administration of admissions databases
- Ensuring compliance with required admissions practices and regulations

The incumbent continuously monitors, analyzes and recommends improvements to recruiting strategies and admissions processes and serves as partner and advisor to the admissions committees and their chairs. The incumbent reports to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and acts as the primary liaison between the Associate Dean and prospective and current applicants and the entire admissions process.

The incumbent exercises significant supervisory authority for one direct report, not directly checking all work but overseeing and assessing the quality of outcomes apparent in each aspect of the admissions cycle. Incumbent will be expected to resolve unique problems by collecting and interpreting information and in turn formulating a solution. Receives advice and input as needed from supervisor, who is the Associate Dean for the Office of Student Affairs.

The individual will be responsible for contacts with administration in all areas of the University and School of Dental Medicine. These will include frequent interactions with the Office of the Dean in the dental school and the parallel offices on lower campus. Contacts are made with students, staff, and faculty throughout the school and university. Contacts will be made with applicants and dental organizations. The incumbent has the potential to have daily contact with external members and officers in organized dentistry and alumni, and with government organizations and agencies. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.


Job Summary

Assists leadership in the creation and maintenance of the admissions and recruitment strategy. Oversees day-to-day office operations, marketing strategy, and promotional communications. Recruits, evaluates, and participates in the selection of candidates for admission.


Essential Functions

High level communication skills, word processing and data management via computer are the “essential functions” of the position. The incumbent must be able to respond to electronic, written, and verbal correspondence and present information to students in a classroom setting.


Physical Effort

This position is not sedentary and does require a lot of walking, involving delivering materials to faculty, staff, students, and various departments in the school and across campus, at meetings, and elsewhere. Some travel is required locally and nationally.
