Assistant Professor of Studio Arts with a secondary appointment in English

The Department of Studio Arts at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Computation and new media art, beginning in the fall term of 2024. The teaching load is 2/2 plus expected services such as administrative or committee work and student mentoring.

The Studio Arts department houses a range of coursework and practices including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital creation, photography, printing and bookmaking, creative coding, and much more. We value flexible teachers who can create engaging courses that respond to the needs of our programs and to school-wide general education requirements and to non-majors interested in art as well.

As a department that values inclusive and welcoming environments in which to work and learn, we are interested in hearing from candidates whose lived experiences would prove resourceful in mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, including students of color, LGBTQ+ students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. This line signals a commitment from the university, college, and department to support the Studio Arts department’s continued success in recruiting undergraduate majors, developing future artists and graduate students, and serving the general education needs of our students. The school is committed to strong interdisciplinary mentoring and career development for all its faculty.

All applicants must have significant professional experience in an art exhibition and a terminal degree in a related arts field; must demonstrate evidence of excellent teaching and a commitment to undergraduate intermediate and advanced courses; must demonstrate institutional and professional engagement; and must demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion in their teaching and service. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and benefits are generous.
