Clinical Research Nurse Practitioner



This position will provide quality nurse practitioner skills and clinical research support to the NIA funded Alzheimer Disease Research Center (ADRC) through the clinical research program in the ADRC Clinical Core. Specific responsibilities include participant recruitment, administration of study assessments for the ADRC-related clinical trials; conduct of medical/ neurological histories and performance of physical/neurologic examinations on ADRC registry subjects; provision of back up for the ADRC Autopsy program; and coordination of clinical drug trials. In addition, participate in ADRC Outreach, Recruitment and Engagement Core education programs for health professionals; provide relevant tutorials; and conduct lectures regarding AD to the lay community. The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a medical field.


Job Summary

Supports clinical research projects by facilitating finalization on medical research protocols, managing final approvals of procedures, and assisting research faculty with future trials by study protocol drug and device advisement. Prepares, writes, and presents updated protocols. Works directly with patients and takes medical histories, performs exams, obtains biological specimens, assists with procedures, schedules tests, and performs study-specific protocols. Acts as liaison to regulatory bodies and reports to auditing bodies. Ensures regulatory adherence.


Essential Functions

Excellent written and verbal communication, analytic and judgement skills.

Competent and accurate record-keeping for both ADRC registry and clinical trials participants.

Provision of positive environment for the study participants and their study partners.

High degree of independent judgment. Errors in judgement could impact participant diagnosis and follow-up.

Excellent interpersonal skills with research participants and their study partners. Professionalism in interactions within the University departments and Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health etc. and external interactions with clinical trial sponsors, other ADRCS and community agencies.


Physical Effort

Mostly sedentary, must be able to get around University setting. Moderate to sedentary position. Some walking to various University campus sites. Physical activity will include assisting patients on/off exam table. Lifting light objects including clinical trial supplies.
