Laboratory Specialist



The Kliment Laboratory within the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Laboratory Specialist to further the group’s understanding of smoking-induced lung injury and lung fibrosis. This role requires an individual to perform tasks related to planning of animal experiments and animal modeling of lung disease, animal husbandry and breeding, genotyping, animal therapeutic treatments, tissue harvesting, and processing of downstream experimental samples. This role requires close collaboration and communication with lab members and the PI.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions

-Planning and execution of animal models of lung disease
-Breeding and husbandry of mice including genoyping
-Experimental processing to collect animal specimens and process for downstream analysis.
-Lung function assessment of animals


Physical Effort

Must be able to stand and/or sit for up to 8 hours.
