Medical Data Scientist



This position will be hired in Division of Hematology Oncology but will be part of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement at Hillman Cancer Center.


Job Summary

Applies scientific methodology to conceptualize, propose, and implement appropriate methodologies for statistical analyses. Maintains and updates centralized research awards database. Assists with grant preparations and clinical trial budgets. Develops and validates reporting data, validates data subsets of funding data, and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy.


Essential Functions

• Applies scientific methodology to conceptualize, propose, and implement appropriate methodologies for statistical analyses.
• Maintains and updates centralized research awards database.
• Maintains and updates online database curating data from public-sources databases as well as internal health system databases (EPIC, Registry etc.).


• Assists with writing statistical analysis portions of scientific manuscripts and appropriate sections of grant proposals, preparing tables and graphs, and reviewing data reported in manuscripts and grants for accuracy and appropriate statistical interpretation.
• Assists with preparation of grant applications and submittals of manuscript publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Revises analysis sections and results as requested by investigators and journal editors.
• Develops and validates reporting data; prepares report analyses. Manipulates datasets and clean data.
• Conducts statistical analysis to determine appropriate sample size for proposed studies.
• Validates data subsets of funding data.
• Creates, updates, and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
• Proficiency with R.
• Knowledge and experience with R-Shiny and SQL would be beneficial.


Physical Effort

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
