Research Technician



The O’Sullivan Lab at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center conducts research on telomere function in human cancer cells. The research emphasizes alterations in chromatin structure and DNA repair pathways. Common research methodologies applied include fluorescence microscopy, protein expression analysis, DNA preparation and analyses, cell culture and cellular manipulation.The Research Technician should have training and a solid foundation in basic laboratory techniques and experience with techniques associated with the following specific areas: molecular biology; flow cytometry; Immunobiochemistry; and cell culture. The Research Technician will be capable of exercising independent judgment while participating in the planning of experiments and evaluating and interpreting results.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.


Essential Functions

Performs laboratory procedures and tests; analyzes and interprets the results.


Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time.
