Research Technician



The Lee Oesterreich Lab is seeking a Research Technician to join their group at the Women’s Cancer Research Center. The Research Technician will be expected to perform complex and specialized cellular and molecular biology experiments using cancer cell lines, patient specimens, and animal models in a laboratory setting. The candidate will also participate in the collection and lab processing of blood and tissue samples from cancer patients enrolled in clinical trials. The candidate will assist in developing active research projects in the laboratory, designing experiments and new research protocols, and work independently to perform the experiments. The candidate is expected to work independently to analyze data, prepare reports, and discuss data with PI and other lab members at weekly lab meetings. The candidate must have prior experience in biomedical research, including advanced techniques in cellular (cell culture, western blot, colony formation assay) and molecular biology (PCR, rt-PCR). Experience with animal experiments using xenografts, syngeneic, and GEM models is highly desirable. Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills are required. The candidate must work well with others. Responsible for supervising undergraduate and graduate students and overseeing and managing their work responsibilities, as well as initial training in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment. Manages laboratory protocols (IBC, IACUC), annual laboratory inspections, and oversees laboratory ordering. Will also monitor laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.


Essential Functions

Working on lab bench in cellular (cell cultures, flow cytometry) and molecular biology, perform animal experiments, analysis of data and prepare reports. Perform ordering and phone calls, email communications and entering data in database.


Physical Effort

Primarily sedentary. Must be capable of animal handling, animal surgeries, and handling laboratory equipment and supplies.
