Research Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a full-time Research Specialist position in Dr. Hun-Way Hwang’s laboratory in the Department of Pathology. Our current research focuses on the role of abnormal mRNA processing in human disease. We combine powerful in vivo high-throughput profiling methods and CRISPR technology with genetically modified mouse models of human disease to identify candidate mRNA isoforms that may contribute to disease pathogenesis in specific cell types in vivo. These candidate mRNA isoforms will then be further studied by in vitro and in vivo methods to reveal their biological functions and the molecular mechanisms regulating their processing, which will provide novel insights into the management and treatment of human disease. Our two recent publications describe how cancer cells switch mRNA isoforms to survive chemotherapy (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.celrep.2021.109815) and how hyperactive mTORC1 alters mRNA isoform expression in tuberous sclerosis complex (https://elifesciences.org/articles/85036). Additional information can be found at https://www.hwangrnalab.org.Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field. Significant undergraduate lab experience beyond coursework and familiarity with the basics of molecular biology and mammalian cell culture is desired.
