JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Financial Aid Counselor advises students and their families on matters concerning financial aid eligibility, cost of attendance, debt management, and financial literacy for the assigned college(s). This position conducts verifications, uses professional judgment on student requests and overrides, and reviews SAP and federal, state, and/or other aid eligibility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as financial aid counselor for assigned college(s); communicates, advises, and counsels both accepted and continuing students regarding all matters associated with financing their educational cost.
  2. Collaborates with Financial Aid, Registrar’s Office, and Admission Staff to create and present a personalized, student-friendly financing plan to both admitted and continuing students.
  3. Counsels current and prospective students on federal Title IV, state, and other aid resources, policies, and application procedures.
  4. Counsels students related to the Satisfactory Academic Progress process, including evaluating students’ progression in the curriculum; communicates with students not meeting progress as defined by the University’s policy.
  5. Completes the financial aid packaging process using federal and institutional methodology; helps students understand the financial aid process; communicates aid eligibility.
  6. Conducts verification of application materials with supporting documentation for accuracy and works with students to resolve discrepancies.
  7. Updates and awards all alternative loans to student aid packages.
  8. Provides financial aid presentations at orientation and other college or University events as necessary.
  9. Maintains communication with colleges as it relates to the awarding of college scholarships and awards.
  10. Helps develop and participate in admission, matriculation, continuing enrollment, and student loan entrance and exit counseling activities.
  11. Plans, organizes, and executes financial wellness and scholarship resource education through a variety of activities.
  12. Assists the office in developing and maintaining policies, processes and procedures documentation.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree.(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of financial aid or related enrollment experience with a strong orientation towards high-volume and time-sensitive processes; OR a combination of education and related work experience to equal nine (9) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Excellent written and oral communication skills/presentation skills.

· Ability to develop a high level of understanding of federal and state financial aid regulations as well as financial aid policies and procedures.

· Excellent time management skills.

· Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve problems.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality of student data.

· Ability to work independently on financial aid-related duties as well as part of a team.

· Ability to travel for conference training opportunities and positively represent the University.

· Ability to collaborate within a team-based environment.



WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
