Maintenance Assistant (Operations Specialist 1 – MR02)

The Maintenance Assistant assists in the Setup of equipment and service for arena events including concerts, basketball games, and other events as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Performs setup and breakdown of equipment for events in the arena which includes building the stage for concerts, placing barricades where needed during concerts, and placing mixer platforms for concerts
  • Performs setup and breakdown for basketball games which includes installing the basketball court and goals, installing press row and the scorer's table
  • Performs setup and removal of tables and chairs for catering, cleaning various rooms, and the setup of reception areas when needed
  • Works during the events performing general custodial duties on the main concourse and on the core area as needed
  • Performs limited amount of preventative maintenance on equipment including minor repairs of tables and chairs
  • Performs setup of rooms for meetings during conferences, athletic department, and other University meetings
  • Performs custodial duties include but are not limited to cleaning the seating areas, floor, and dressing rooms
  • Assists with the painting of rails and walls throughout the facility
  • Assists the Technical Coordinator and/or general crew members as needed in order to be ready for concerts, basketball games, and graduations
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Ability to follow instructions and make decisions pertaining to setup of equipment for events
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work with heavy equipment or items
This position requires the incumbent to be able to work long and irregular hours based upon the needs of the event and turnover time between events. It may also require the employee to work over night in order to accomplish the task.

Minimum Qualifications: Typically requires a high school diploma and six months of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work with heavy equipment or items.

Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience in a facility providing facility setup and/or tear down duties is preferred.
