JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Plumber installs, maintains, and operates plumbing equipment throughout campus facilities and provides leadership, guidance and training to lower ranked personnel. This position is also responsible for record keeping on either paper or web-based.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  2. Interprets blueprints and building specifications to map layout for pipes, drainage systems, and other plumbing materials.
  3. Installs, repairs, and replaces pipes and fixtures, such as sinks and toilets, for water, gas, steam, air, or other liquids on plumbing systems. Installs supports for pipes, equipment, and fixtures prior to installation.
  4. Assembles fittings and valves for installation.
  5. Modifies length of pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing materials as needed for a building.
  6. Uses saws, pipe cutters, and other necessary tools for projects.
  7. Coordinates with contractors, electricians, pipefitters, other plumbers and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing.
  8. Tests plumbing systems and performs preventive maintenance for leaks and other problems. Performs inspections of plumbing systems to identify and replace worn parts.
  9. Chooses plumbing materials based on location, and intended uses of building.
  10. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  11. Documents the problem and summary of actions taken.
  12. Directs outside contractor plumber and other personnel concerning projects or plumbing issues.
  13. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School diploma or GED(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years recent licensed journeyman level experience. Candidate must have the ability to install, maintain, and operate all types of plumbing equipment. A thorough knowledge of applicable codes and plumbing blue print reading skills.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a Memphis/Shelby County Journeyman Plumber’s License. Must have a valid driver’s license. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: Working conditions includes climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, driving, and carrying.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position is required to report to their designated work location to ensure operation of essential campus functions or departments during an emergency, or when the University has suspended or delayed operations. Work hours are Monday through Friday 7:45am to 4:45pm.This position may occasionally work evenings and weekends.
