JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Program Manager serves as the study director for a new NIH UC7 enabled position that represents a new and critical position and building block that will lead and collaborate to build new scientific directions and technical capabilities in RNA Seq and imaging of small animal models of infectious disease.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Leads the development of new modalities to probe infection and immunity and utilizes this knowledge to conduct efficacy experiments conducted in mice (or other small animal models) with viruses.

2. Develops and executes assays to measure and detect viral replication in cell lines and animal tissues and/or fluids.

3. Develops, optimizes, and/or validates all assays using appropriate instrumentation.

4. Measures the response of viruses or viral proteins to antiviral drugs.

5. Utilizes MS Office Suite products and statistical analysis tools to analyze and present data.

6. Leads or supports all aspects of in-vitro or animal studies of pathogens for life history studies using new imaging modalities.

7. Maintains raw data for analysis.

8. Develops protocols and/or Standard Operating Procedures for all techniques utilized if required.

9. Communicates results, orally and in writing, for reports, publications, or grant proposals.

10. Builds research with external collaborators.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Masters’ Degree (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of relevant experience OR. Bachelors’ Degree and four (4) years of relevant experience OR Ph.Dand prior relevant experience. Must be able to pass the Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for work with Select Agents and Toxins.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge in virology, bioinformatics, or pathogenesis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with collaborators and work as a team.
  • Skill in creating figures for manuscripts and writing manuscripts.
  • Ability to utilize all MS Office Suite products, Sigma Plot, or other statistical software products.
  • Ability to follow protocols and aid in protocol development for standard operating protocols.
  • Ability to follow biosafety level 3 practices.
  • Ability to observe and follow appropriate safety and study requirements by reading, understanding, and performing Standard Operating Procedures, Good Laboratory Practices requirements, and study protocols.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position is occasionally required to work evenings and weekends. May occasionally require overnight travel.
