The University of Tennessee Space Institute Facilities Department in Tullahoma, Tennessee is seeking a Maintenance Specialist II (Facilities Services Trades Specialist 2, MR 06). This is a full-time regular staff non-exempt hourly paid position. Compensation for the position will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position Summary:


Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, facilities, and appliances. Maintain and repair building systems including following set preventative maintenance schedule for greasing bearings, replacing belts, checking and repairing exhaust fans, and pumps. Other duties include various electrical and plumbing tasks. Run conduit and solder copper plumbing pipe, plumb sinks, water fountains, and commodes. Duties require keeping the job site clean and safe, the proper use of power tools including but not limited to drills, saws, pipe threading equipment, forklift, aerial boom lifts, etc. Take annual safety and OSHA training as required by the state and campus safety office. Performs other related duties as required.

Job Function/Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, facilities, and appliances.
  • Maintain and repair building systems including following a maintenance schedule for greasing bearings, replacing belts, checking and repairing exhaust fans, and pumps.
  • Various plumbing tasks such as run conduit and solder copper pipe, plumb sinks, water fountains, and commodes.
  • Proper safe use of power tools including but not limited to drills, saws, pipe threading equipment, forklift, aerial boom lifts, etc.
  • Assist other tradesmen as required.
  • Keep the job site clean and safe.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of electrical to troubleshoot and install equipment as well as general associated electrical related to motor controls, electronic DDC energy management system actuators and related equipment, hot water boilers and associated controls, exhaust fan service, plumbing, pneumatic dampers, and air compressor service and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to use test instruments such as an electrical multimeter, be able to size wire and bend conduit, read schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to complete mandatory Program for Minors training and pass associated background check.
  • Ability to complete all mandatory safety and OSHA training.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain pertinent certifications required by the department.
This position requires the ability to operate power tools/machinery, operate light or heavy equipment, wear personal protective equipment if required, climb ladders, work in high places, to walk over extended periods, and work while bending and stooping. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must have ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, staff and university personnel and work with others in a respectful, cooperative manner and be a team player. Must have ability to follow directions. Must be reliable in attendance, clean and neat in appearance, and be able to perform moderately strenuous activities. Must be able to occasionally work on call. Workdays Monday through Friday, hours 7:30 am until 4:30 pm.



Supervisory/Work Direction Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

Education
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Prefers technical or vocational training in Industrial Electricity or similar specialty.
Required level/type of experience and/or years of experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience in commercial/industrial maintenance to include electrical and plumbing installation. Graduation from an accredited institution with certification in Industrial Electricity or a similar specialty may be considered as a substitute for some work experience.
Preferred level/type of experience and/or years of experience
  • HVAC/R experience a plus.

  • Requires a Valid Driver’s license
