Job Summary

The Office of Admissions is a dynamic and growing organization committed to assisting future students learn about and enroll at the University of Utah. We are seeking a personable, energetic, and poised regional admissions counselor to join our team to help us expand our recruitment reach, continue to increase our new student enrollment, and shape the entering class. The regional admissions counselor will be an integral part of our team responsible for recruiting and enrolling new undergraduate students in the Houston, Texas area. This position is one of two regional admissions counselor positions based in Texas. The regional admissions counselor will serve as an advisor to prospective students, their families, secondary school counselors and others. The regional admissions counselor will develop an in‐depth understanding of admissions practices, institutional policies, and program offerings to effectively recruit students. The regional admissions counselor will work from home and reside in the Houston, Texas area. The regional admissions counselor will manage all undergraduate student recruitment efforts in this region, while maintaining regular communication with the Office of Admissions located on our main campus in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, report, and assess a domestic first‐year and transfer recruitment plan that helps the University of Utah achieve its enrollment goals within the Houston area and Southern Texas region
  • Implement a domestic first‐year and transfer student recruitment plan which includes high school visits, two year college visits, college fairs, information sessions, receptions, and meetings with secondary school and independent counselors, prospective students, families, and community‐based organizations
  • Build personalized relationships with prospective students, families, school counselors, alumni, and other constituents in support of the recruitment goals for the territory
  • Actively contribute and participate in the Houston Admissions Regional Network (HARN) event and programs throughout the year
  • Support the recruitment and admission of transfer students from institutions within the assigned territory
  • Plan all off‐campus admission events in all areas of regional responsibility in collaboration with the campus experience team
  • Read and evaluate all domestic applications in regional territory
  • Significant travel, including some overnights and weekends, within the territory between early September to November and January to May is required
  • Quarterly travel to the University of Utah campus for office training, staff meetings, and on-campus events is also expected
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years' related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Preferences

Preference will be given to candidates who possess excellent customer service skills, demonstrate proficient oral and written communication skills, and have adept interpersonal skills; demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with culturally and ethnically diverse populations; have the ability to communicate complex information to multiple audiences, as well as speak in front of large groups; demonstrate problem‐solving and time‐management skills; have a valid driver's license; possess an understanding of higher education, specifically the value of public higher education. Preference will also be given to those who have admissions/recruitment experience at a regionally accredited university. The select candidate will be willing to work some evenings and weekends and travel overnight in‐and out‐of‐state approximately 4‐6weeks annually.
