Work Schedule Summary

Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Some weekends and nights. This role works primarily on campus (in-person) but is eligible for alternative schedules such as one remote workday per week, or other workweek formats that may be appealing to the selected candidate. During the summer months, a “410” schedule, a “980” schedule may be considered. The role is also approved for remote work during times of surge telework.

Job Summary

The Associate Director for Student Leadership & Involvement serves as an integral part of the professional staff within Student Leadership & Involvement, working directly with 500+ student organizations. They serve as a professional advisor who is responsible for advising, training, and maintaining the Recognized Student Organizations ( RSO) community.

As the Associate Director, this position provides regular student advisement to Recognized Student Organization student leaders. This position works closely with student organization leaders and members, advisors, and campus departments to create transformative leadership opportunities that result in effective and efficient, fiscally sound programs and services.

This position will supervise one or more Graduate Assistants. The role will also play a critical part in the expansion of the Campus Connect platform across Student Affairs as a whole. The incumbent will report to the Associate Dean for Student Engagement & Leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Acts as a liaison, consultant, and information resource to RSO advisors, new and existing student organizations, and University college/departments.
  • Ensures RSO's are in compliance with Departmental Protocols, University Regulations, State or Federal Law, and Local Ordinances. Stays abreast of legal or other related changes impacting the program and makes recommendations for improvement and compliance.
  • Supports the Office of the Dean of Students in assisting with managing organizational adjudication and conduct of RSO's
  • Coordinates and implements yearly student organization registration process, including reviewing reactivation submissions.
  • Coordinates and implements necessary trainings for RSOs, RSO advisors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provides day-to-day maintenance of student organization management software, including serving as a portal liaison to campus stakeholders, and updating the Campus Connect website (getinvolved.utah.edu) as needed.
  • May supervise one or more graduate assistant for RSO support, platform management, and consultations.
  • Coordinates the marketing, communications, and outreach efforts on behalf of Student Leadership & Involvement, including management of the SLI website (leadership.utah.edu), creation and distribution of the bi-weekly RSO newsletter, presentations, and other outreach strategies to promote student involvement in the RSO community and additional leadership programs.
  • Develop and implement tools to facilitate the development of leadership skills for the RSO community (and students at large), including but not limited to student leadership conferences and summits, leadership podcast, and additional online and in-person engagement and educational opportunities.
  • Coordinate regular opportunities for RSO's to engage with the campus community, meet students at large, and promote involvement in their organization (i.e. semi-annual Get Involved Fair).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.

Preferences

Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Marketing, Psychology, Social Work, or Technology. Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks concurrently in a fast-paced environment. Experience utilizing and managing student organization management software, solid knowledge of technology, and strong computer proficiency. Desire to work with University policy, and how it applies to the RSO community (including but not limited to Risk Management, Legal Considerations, and more).

This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
