Job Summary

The University of Utah seeks an individual with passion and experience in cost estimating and scheduling to support teams in planning, design and construction. The individual should have experience with new buildings, renovations of existing buildings, and upgrades to site infrastructure. This role supports project management teams throughout the project life-cycle with the preparation of initial conceptual estimates and schedules, all the way to detailed estimates and schedules as needed. This position also includes reviewing and commenting on estimates and schedules prepared by architects, contractors, and third party entities for compliance to contracts and standards.

The individual should have a working knowledge of material unit costs, systems square footage costs, and total building square footage costs in the academic, research and healthcare environment.

The candidate should have a solid working knowledge of critical-path scheduling, including MS Project and Primavera scheduling software. Job Responsibilities
  1. Create conceptual, schematic, and construction estimates and schedules.
  2. Prepare updates to cost estimates at each phase of design and construction.
  3. Reconcile estimates with Contractors and Designers on projects.
  4. Evaluate contractor bids.
  5. Evaluate and negotiate potential change orders during construction.
  6. Work closely with project teams throughout the project lifecycle to manage project cost.
  7. Research and compile historical cost data and keep database current for use in future estimate preparation.
  8. Keep current on changes and trends in methods of construction and materials, construction costs, wage rates, fringes and working rules.
  9. Participate in, and occasionally lead, design and construction progress meetings.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); AND 5-7 years of related experience; Familiarity with State and national building codes and experience working on capital development project, and; Demonstrated human relation and effective written and verbal communication skills are required.

Current licensure with the State of Utah as an Architect or Engineer is preferred.
