Needed: Mondays and Wednesdays 8:00am-3:30pm

This position is 10-19 hours per week and may require weekends and some evenings.

Hours of operation: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (8:00 pm on Wednesday) Sat-Sun 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Shifts vary based upon the availability of other staff members.

Job Summary

The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is located on the campus of the University of Utah and offers visitors the opportunity to explore over 5,000 years of human creativity with a collection of over 20,000 objects and art works from classic Greek and Roman antiquities to cutting-edge, contemporary art. Founded in 1914, the UMFA is the state of Utah's art museum, creating exhibitions and programs that serve a wide array of audiences. The UMFA is housed in the award-winning Marcia and John Price Museum Building.

Candidates for this position will be primarily assigned to kitchen duties, but candidates will also be expected to learn and demonstrate knowledge of Barista duties. This is a fast-paced work environment, combining intense periods of food service and heavy cleaning duties, with limited customer interaction. Kitchen staff will be expected to perform both opening and closing duties, with studious concern for procedural standards in cleanliness, food safety, quality, presentation and cooperation with others.

Responsibilities

Kitchen staff will require a Utah Food Handler's permit ( UMFA will provide if necessary)

Kitchen Staff's primary responsibilities are as follows:

a. Preparing menu items in a timely fashion according to recipes and customer requests

b. Dishwashing

c. Constant, thorough cleaning of food prep areas and machinery

d. Receiving, stocking and maintaining inventory

e. Daily food pre-preparation

f. Maintain high levels of personal hygiene

g. An accommodating ability to work with others

h. Awareness of the Museum operations and programs

Minimum Qualifications

Current Food Handler's Permit within one month of employment; must be able to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in English; and a commitment to providing excellence in service required. Six months food handlers' experience is preferred.

Preferences

A successful candidate possesses exceptional food handling knowledge, moderate customer service skills, is a dedicated self-starter with attention to food presentation, cleanliness and teamwork. Reliability and dependability are a must.

Previous kitchen experience is preferred.
