Job Summary

Provides excellent customer service to the University of Utah community and visitors by ensuring parking accommodations are monitored and patrolled on a regular basis for parking infractions in order to keep parking areas accessible to authorized permit holders and special-use patrons.

Responsibilities

Patrols parking lots by License Plate Recognition-equipped vehicle and/or issued bicycle, which involves checking for valid permits and issuing citations for parking violations. Assists in providing motorist services to the University community and the public such as directing individuals to available parking and specific buildings/departments on campus, assisting visitors and registered users of the campus parking system in understanding regulations and the availability of parking in all areas of the campus, and jump-starting vehicles. Processes copies of issued citations and completes forms related to work performed during shift. Directs traffic in parking lots during special events such as football, basketball, entertainment events, theatrical productions, or University wide events (commencement). Impounds vehicles parked in tow-away zones or that involve excessive citations in accordance with departmental procedures. Testifies in court involving contested citations as requested by the Attorney General's office. May set up, take down, maintain and inventory all equipment needed for special event parking. May collect revenue from day pass machines and meters. May perform preventive maintenance on parking lot equipment and order new equipment as needed. May be required to perform dispatching work. May be required to perform Appeals Office duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years related parking enforcement experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); a valid Utah's Driver's License; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. Must be able to pass a background review.

Preferences

Must be able to pass a background review. Demonstrated computer experience including word processing and spreadsheet skills are a plus. Ability to evaluate and resolve parking issues and payment options for customer's impounded vehicles. Good judgment and honesty a must when collecting payments for unpaid tickets in the field. Must be able to handle high stress and crisis situations and have a commitment to provide excellent customer service. Must be able to lawfully operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to ride a mountain bike.
