Simulation Specialist
The University of Virginia School of Medicine's Medical Simulation Center (MSC) is seeking a Simulation Specialist to join the team in Charlottesville, VA. The School of Medicine's Medical Simulation Center is one of the top-ranked centers of its kind in the country and is driven by its mission to advance the role of simulation technology in the enhancement of medical education through the development, application, and assessment of learner-centered educational methods. The Simulation Specialist position will help fulfill this mission by coordinating educational aspects of the simulation program including performing pre-and post-simulation activities, executing simulation sessions, and collaborating with faculty and staff on scenario development. In addition to supporting the daily operations of the Simulation Center, providing technical and administrative coordination, and maintaining documentation and resources. The successful candidate will manage, under the guidance of the operations director.
Continuing the collaborative atmosphere promoted by The University of Virginia School of Medicine, the Medical Simulation Center functions in an interdisciplinary, multi-specialty environment working to promote advances in simulation through the development of innovative research, education, and quality improvement initiatives. The MSC has recently formed a Simulation Alliance with the School of Nursing's Clinical Simulation Learning Center that combines the personnel, space, and assets of the two centers to improve simulation education for all learners.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Provide technical support for all aspects of simulated learning experiences.
- Maintain and update simulation hardware and software as directed and supervised by more senior members of the team.
- Conduct technical setup before a simulation.
- Care for equipment post-simulation, ensuring readiness for use in the next simulation.
- Control monitors during a simulation and operate the simulation capture system.
- Maintain inventory for high-fidelity simulation rooms.
- Create learning materials and scenario documentation as directed and supervised by more senior members of the team.
- With supervision, manage online training, scheduling, video recording and monitoring, and documentation of cases.
- Administer and maintain a database of student evaluations.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Associates degree or experiential or functional equivalent in a healthcare or science related field.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
