Position summary:

Responsible for management of Lost Creek plant operations, and additional laboratory staff as required. This primarily consists, but is not limited to, operating and understanding all systems in the uranium processing plant (Ion Exchange, Elution, Precipitation, Filtration, Drying, Packaging, Water Treatment / Disposal, and Reagents).

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain safe and efficient processing of production fluids into dried yellowcake
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements
  • Compile process data for analysis and determine trends in processes; utilize process data for use in preparation of daily and monthly production and compliance reports
  • Schedule and manage work crews
  • Provide budgets for operations activities; specify and purchase process materials and equipment
  • Review automation and instrumentation systems and data to optimize plant operations
  • Anticipate and identify operational issues before they develop into problems; work with staff to troubleshoot and correct operational upsets or problems
    • Diagnose fluid transfer, filtration, and treatment problems as they relate to plant operations.
    • Develop and maintain chemical systems and evaluate chemical processes to optimize production.
    • Evaluate and optimize PIDs and flow sheets.
  • Work with other departments/staff as necessary to achieve production and operational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Hydrometallurgy, or like degree
  • Critical thinking and strong communication skills
  • Strong math skills related to chemistry and process operations
  • Experience and compliance with regulations and procedures
  • Strong planning, organizational and follow up skills
  • Comprehension of safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be mobile (walking, standing); to use hands for various tasks; to see and hear adequately to perform all essential functions and maintain a safe work environment. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to sit and operate standard computer equipment. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to routine industrial hazards which may include fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. There is the potential that the employee will be exposed to low-level radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate.
