Position Summary:

The Research Program Manager will work in research projects related to assessing the needs related to the significant disparity in cancer incidence and outcomes in Richmond and the tri-cities area. The Research Program Manager will establish and build upon community collaborations to facilitate the ongoing assessment of available resources, community identified needs, challenges, and disbeliefs as it relates to cancer prevention and control, and cancer research.

Core Responsibility:

· Responsibility 1 (40%): Establish working partnerships with community organizations.
  • Identify and contact the key community-based health care, advocacy, prevention, education, and monitoring organizations within project area.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with interested and applicable key community-based organizations to effectively reach the appropriate populations for the activities proposed.
  • Facilitate Community Research Board and collaborate with VCU Research
  • Facilitate recruitment and other important aspects of study implementation in community settings
  • Serve as representative on community organizations to foster research development
· Responsibility 2 (50%): Collaborate with VCU research and community partners to build a perspective on cancer prevention and control research
  • Facilitate Community Research Board
  • Organize data collection, including focus groups, interviews, and other methods of qualitative data collection.
· Responsibility 3 (10%): Assist in the application and preparation of project reports, grants, and scientific publications
  • Provide data and data analysis for publication
  • Conduct literature reviews and other tasks necessary for grant proposals and manuscripts
Minimum Hiring Standards:

· Experience in outreach, program planning, implementation, and evaluation

· Experience with low-income and culturally diverse populations

· BA/BS degree in public health social sciences or health related field

· Ability to provide own transportation to service area

· Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Hiring Standards:

· MPH or MS in social sciences or related field or equivalent applicable training or experience.

· Knowledge and experience with acquiring population-based health needs information, including focus groups, key informant interviews, town halls, etc.
