Position Summary:
The Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease & Metabolic Health is seeking a Director of Biomedical Data Science to help build a world-class research ecosystem. The Director will play a pivotal role in shaping data strategy and execution. A successful candidate will have an established record of managing, analyzing, and deriving meaning from diverse biomedical data sources, including large and complex multi-omics datasets. Additionally, the candidate should experience leading and mentoring other data scientists.

Core Responsibilities:
10% Support the implementation of a data platform that integrates our biorepository data with analytical tools, and which facilitates internal data access and external collaboration.
10% Support the development of community resources that maximize our unique biorepository's scientific and translational impact.
50% Develop and implement state-of-the-art computational systems biology research tools for target identification and biomarker discovery.
10% Facilitate translational research by fostering collaboration across basic science researchers, clinicians, data scientists, and developers.
10% Lead and mentor other data scientists.
10% Contribute to the educational goals of the program through biomedical data science education.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, statistical genetics, or a related field.
8+ years of relevant experience in an academic or industry setting.
5+ years of direct supervisory experience, and experience in recruiting and mentoring PhD-level scientists.
Extensive experience with managing, analyzing, and interpreting multi-omics datasets.
Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
A publication record that demonstrates creative and novel method development.
A team player who can work both collaboratively and independently.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
