Position Summary:

Principal investigator, Dr. Vanessa Sheppard, is in search of a Post-Doctoral Fellow to work on several funded projects within the School of Population Health. The primary area of research involves Cancer and Health Disparities. We strongly encourage diverse applicants to submit their materials for this Post-Doctoral Fellow position. We are seeking candidates who are committed to a research career in cancer prevention and control as well as health disparities, have completed prior research and training in the field, have an outstanding academic record, and who have received (or will have received by our anticipated appointment start date) a Ph.D.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Participate in a variety of research opportunities
  • Conduct collaborative and independent research related to cancer health disparities
  • Participate in regular research meetings with mentors.
  • Collaborate in grant conceptualization, writing, and implementation
  • Present scientific work at research conferences/symposiums
Required Qualifications:
  • Applicants should have a recent doctoral degree (or soon to graduate) in the areas such as applied behavioral sciences, health behavior, health policy, social behavioral health, epidemiology, or public health
  • Strong academic writing skills
  • Required qualifications include critical thinking, communication skills, interest in cancer health disparities research, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at VCU
