The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC), School of Education, invites interested candidates to apply for an exciting opportunity as a Training and Technical Assistance Associate. VCU's Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) conducts advanced research and provides training and technical assistance with associated dissemination activities to improve the employment outcomes of individuals with significant disabilities. Note to Applicants: This is a grant-funded position.

Responsibilities of the Training and Technical Assistance Associate include:
Facilitating online courses, developing and delivering professional development to educators across Virginia, developing online course content relevant to the field of special education, and services for students with autism;
Assisting with data collection and research development as it relates to the goals of the Autism Center for Education;
Supporting ACE by writing research briefs, manuals, training modules and implementing special research and development projects identified by the team;
Completing literature reviews and various research projects;
Providing technical assistance to schools and school divisions to increase capacity and improve services for students with ASD across the age range to include early childhood education and support for parents and families;
Coaching and mentoring special and general education teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff in the implementation of evidence-based practices for individuals with ASD;
Assisting schools and school systems in developing systems change plans for improving services to students with ASD;
Facilitating school autism teams in implementing data based systems change plans; coordinate statewide planning and implementing regional Communities of Leaders in Autism (CoLA) including planning and implementing the CoLA Summer Institute;
Developing and delivering targeted training in multiple live and on-line formats;
Coordinating and collaborating with statewide stakeholders on the development of additional products to meet the needs of students with ASD across the state;
Assisting with ACE training and technical assistance efforts in augmentative and alternative communication strategies for students with ASD;
Assisting with efforts to increase capacity in the development of speech, language, and communication planning for students with ASD;
Providing consultative and coaching services to educators regarding the implementation of evidence-based practices across Virginia;
Assisting school divisions with inclusion practices, and embed the current principles and techniques of educating students with ASD in general education classrooms;
Maintaining excellent communication with supervisor, co-workers, and external staff through written and verbal communication;
Completing documentation required for reporting activities of the center to funders;
Responding to requests for information in a timely manner through electronic communication, and other means;
Completing additional projects as assigned to support the Autism Center for Education work in local and statewide service improvement plans.

Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, psychology, behavior analysis, autism, speech-language pathology, or a closely related field; Knowledge of Virginia's special education regulations;
Extensive knowledge of evidence-based practices for students with ASD in public school settings;
At least 5 years of experience in teaching, administration, providing direct services or providing therapy in public schools or other public service systems;
At least 2 years of experience delivering technical assistance in public school settings;
Excellent communication skills;
Experience developing and implementing online training and education in ASD;
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. or post-master training;
Extensive experience in delivering speech and language services to individuals with ASD in public school settings;
Speech-Language Pathologist, Certificate of Clinical Competence (SLP-CCC);
Experience teaching individuals with ASD to use augmentative and alternative communication devices and technologies;
Board Certified Behavior Analyst;
Expertise in early childhood special education, transition to adulthood, inclusion practices and embedding the current principles and techniques of educating students with ASD in general education classrooms, support for parents and family members of students with ASD, or other relevant special education topics.
