Job Description Summary

Wake Forest Facilities and Campus Services offers a Monday - Friday work schedule with no travel and benefits including health, dental, vision, generous paid time off, and retirement plans. Tools, uniforms, and work shoes are provided.

Working under general supervision, assists or performs general and preventive maintenance service as directed to ensure proper operation of campus facilities operations and services.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
  • Electrical: perform repairs to electrical systems, outlets and cords; perform or assist with installation of motors and belts as needed; perform or assist with responses to all electrical requests as needed; perform or assist with preventive maintenance on electrical equipment as scheduled.
  • Plumbing: stops overflowing and clogged toilets; unstops showers and sinks; assist with or perform repairs to valves, gaskets and lines (this includes but is not limited to water, sewer, steam and condensate lines); perform or assist with responses to all requests for plumbing service as directed; perform or assist with preventive maintenance on plumbing equipment as scheduled.
  • HVAC: perform or assists with repairs to all types of industrial HVAC equipment; perform or assist with repairs on window units; assist with monitoring HVAC chemical equipment; under minimal supervision, change filters and fan belts; open HVAC drains; perform or assist with responses to all requests for HVAC; perform or assist with preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment as scheduled. Experience with or capable of understanding automated control systems.
  • Carpentry: perform or assist with carpentry repairs on doors, door hardware, windows, storm window fabrication, walls, shelving, and other carpentry repairs as needed.
  • Painting: perform or assist with patching, caulking, priming, staining and painting ceilings, walls, doors, windows and other items as needed.
  • Experience working and communicating with those who are subtly or obviously different than self.
  • Is considered an essential employee as designated in the Facilities Management Severe Weather Policy.
  • Is subject to recall after hours in the event of campus emergencies, disasters or other special needs as directed by management.
  • Contribute to solving problems associated with equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Reports all matters of safety to the appropriate Supervisor and to the Safety Director if necessary.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma plus specialized training with five to ten years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good knowledge and skills in the preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of building systems as needed. These systems include, but are not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building interiors. Specialization in specific areas may be required.
  • Valid driver license with a good driving record; must be insurable.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English with students, faculty, and staff sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to read, understand and abide by all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer software and systems to communicate, monitor, interface, and troubleshoot systems as required.
  • Heavy work. Talking, hearing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or visual inspections of small parts or devices. Subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. Subject to hazards.
