Williams College is excited to announce a part-time (36 hours/week), academic-year (10-month), fully-benefitted regular appointment for the Assistant Director, Middle and High School Outreach position in the Center for Learning in Action (CLiA).

The Assistant Director of Middle and High School Outreach will work closely with middle and high school partners to create and improve community engagement and course fieldwork opportunities. This staff member will bridge the gap between campus and community, guiding individuals and groups in community work and related training in service of educating middle and high school students. They will be the face of Williams College to middle and high school partners in these key areas and will build the foundation for ongoing mutually beneficial relationships. This role will strategically manage programming that meets the needs of community partners while aligning with the teaching goals of Williams faculty and the civic aspirations of Williams students.

Throughout the year, the Assistant Director, Middle and High School Outreach will collaborate with others to direct programming that features elements of training, research, and reflection. This programming will help to build skills among undergraduates while benefiting the health of our broader community.

Responsibilities
  • Support school partnerships by communicating, collaborating, and strategizing with Mount Greylock Regional School's administration, classroom teachers, and student leaders to refine and ensure program success
  • Coordinate paid and volunteer undergraduate programming at local middle and high schools, organize transportation, guide and mentor undergraduate students.
  • Advise undergraduate student leaders on communication, recruitment, training, and evaluation with their peers in program areas.
  • Coordinate on-campus middle and high school experiences, including MGRS's 8th grade ScienceBlast! and 11th grade MathBlast!
  • Facilitate engaged scholarship by supporting Williams faculty and student academic engagement in fieldwork and research projects across school partnerships and ensuring coordination with established CLIA K-12 Education programs
  • Liaise and advise Williams students, faculty, and staff who seek to engage in outreach with partner middle and high schools
  • Write grants to support partnership initiatives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's plus at least three years K-12 education experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with not-for-profit and community organizations. Leadership experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Supervisory experience with undergraduates, including directing and observing their participation and growth in learning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Experience with grant writing.
  • Resourceful, independent, and exceptionally organized.
  • Ability to travel to community sites and transport supplies.

The Assistant Director, Middle and High School Outreach, manages the Williams partnership with Mount Greylock Regional School (MGRS) and runs the Williams Fellows programming. The position assists in creating opportunities for Williams College students to participate in meaningful community engagement and experiential education opportunities at MGRS. Serving as an integral component of CLiA's local education outreach, the Coordinator oversees programs, pilots, projects, and initiatives, liaising with Williams' faculty, staff, student groups, and individual students seeking partnership opportunities with Mount Greylock Regional School.

The Coordinator utilizes targeted outreach to recruit diverse undergraduates to participate in volunteer and paid programs. Additionally, communication skills are critical across various constituencies, including partner middle and high school staff, the middle and high school student body, the larger community, and Williams, to navigate support of MGRS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging goals, especially as those goals intersect with Williams' partnership and DEI efforts.
