The Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research plays a mission critical role in enhancing the overall effectiveness of the institution by conducting research, analyzing data, and developing key performance indicators which guides the institution in its decision-making processes.  In this role, the position also participates and acts as a leader for the institution in areas of data governance and ensuring analysis data integrity and security through policies and procedures.

This position works closely with university leadership, academic departments, and institutional business units to identify appropriate analytics and visualizations to address institutional questions and communicates these results to leadership and other audiences.  This position has two staff members reporting to it and reports to the Provost and Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs.

Primary Responsibilities

Provides analysis and consultation on a variety of administrative related matters.

  • Identify, gather, analyze, and organize institutional data to provide accurate and timely information for efforts such as evaluating institutional effectiveness, supporting grants, developing marketing strategies, and supporting the strategic plan.
  • Coordinate the timely collection of appropriate and accurate institutional data to fulfill state and federal reporting requirements such as the Integrated Postsecondary Educational Data System (IPEDS) and to respond to requests from other agencies, organizations, or individuals.
  • Assist in the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitor progress towards institutional objectives.
  • Assist faculty and staff in identifying appropriate data collection to enhance student success.
  • Work collaboratively to facilitate survey processes, analyzing the data, and communicating results.
  • Conduct research on higher education trends, best practices, and benchmarking data to inform institutional planning and decision-making.
  • Stay current in accreditation standards and compliance requirements, ensuring the institution remains in alignment.

Data Governance

  • Develop and direct institution-wide policy and practices on data analytics, business intelligence, and data governance.
  • Establish and lead data governance program, focusing on data quality and the protection of sensitive data through organizational policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, and tools.
  • Consolidate data analytic activities throughout the institution and set standards for consistent report generation and reporting output, including dashboards. Sets the direction for business-based data analysts to adopt data strategies, methodologies, processes, reporting tools, and visualization technologies.
  • Ensure analyses used for financial reporting and legal requirements are valid, traceable, available, secure, and consistent.
  • Builds campus capabilities for advanced analytics like data science and machine learning.

Instructs faculty and staff on how to retrieve institutional data according to established policies, procedures, and reporting regulations.

  • Train and support faculty, staff, and students in the use of appropriate use and interpretations of visualizations and dashboards.
  • Implement policies and procedures related to campus surveys.
