WOODPATEL is seeking a talented and team-oriented Civil Project Engineer to join our Water/Wastewater Team in Phoenix, Arizona. This individual will be working independently on large projects and/or assisting other civil engineers as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This person will work on engineering designs, prepare reports, develop plans, prepare specifications, and cost estimates for various Water/Wastewater infrastructure projects.

This person will provide engineering for a wide variety of projects including concept development and refinement, preliminary and final design, construction document preparation, cost estimating and construction observation. These engineering projects include but are not limited to water and wastewater system master planning, infrastructure analysis, design of water distribution, pumping and treatment systems, design of wastewater collection, lift station and treatment, well equipping, and site design. All assignments involve client coordination, obtaining regulatory agency approvals and public outreach.

The ideal Civil Project Engineer will participate in the technical design necessary for overall project completion and assure a high level of quality service with a heavy emphasis placed on client satisfaction. 

This position requires working knowledge of design for projects. Duties will include:

  • Review assigned projects during pursuit efforts and after award to assist with defining scope, developing schedules, determining work programs, and needed sub-consultants.
  • Supports and assists a design team in performing project tasks.
  • Work and communicate effectively and regularly with private or municipal clients as well as local state and federal agencies.
  • Participate in effective presentations to councils, the public and selection committees.
  • Ensures the quality, accuracy, and completeness for product as to engineering, design, and drafting quality; compliance with established standards, procedures, codes and ordinances; adherence to design and project schedules; and provides adequate training, technical and administrative guidance, and instruction to personnel within the engineering team(s).
  • Mentors and coaches the staff and promotes a productive work environment.  Available to both clients and employees to the greatest extent possible.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, AZ Professional Engineer’s license or ability to quickly obtain AZ professional engineer registration.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in Water/Wastewater related design.
  • Relevant experience shall include design of treatment facilities, collection systems, booster and pump stations, water, reclaimed water, and wastewater master plans.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a team atmosphere.
  • Must demonstrate ability to plan, organize, supervise, coordinate technical work, and satisfy clients.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, including speaking, listening, and writing.
  • Capacity to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills with limited supervision.
  • Must demonstrate technical understanding of industry design software.
  • Ability to promote corporate/office standards for safety and quality of work.
  • Ability to recognize a project’s critical path and continually plan for project success.
