Position Summary

Job Description:

Summer Counselor Supervisor position available at York Country Day School June 3, 2024- August 9, 2024. It will be a flexible work schedule of no more than 29 hours per week between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm Monday through Friday. Responsibilities include assisting program director with summer care and instruction for students in preschool through grade 6. The applicant should have a passion for STEAM lesson planning. Patience, reliability, flexibility, enthusiasm and experience working with elementary-age children are a must. High School diploma and experience working with elementary-age children is required.

Outcome:

The Summer Camp Supervisor will manage a safe and fun environment for campers and staff. Overseeing camp counselors within their everyday schedule and responsibilities. The Summer Camp Supervisor will communicate needs and issues with the Director of Summer Programs, as well as communicate with parents as needed. The Summer Camp Supervisor should be available June 3- August 9, 2024.

Essential Functions
  • Communicate with the Director, fellow supervisors, counselors, and families
  • Directs daily activity schedule at assigned camp
  • Ensure the safety and well being of campers by providing high quality risk management at all times
  • Have the ability to plan weekly STEAM, Math, Reading, and Writing curriculum and daily activities
  • Communicate with parents when necessary
  • Overseeing daily activities
  • Support lead counselors in classroom roles
  • Communicates camp needs and supplies
  • Inspects program equipment and facilities for safety hazards and recommends corrective action
  • Mediates conflict and behavior issues in a calm, firm and respectful manner
  • Provides a positive atmosphere and instigates fun for campers
  • Be present for 10 weeks of camp, Week of June 3 - Week of August 5
  • Assist YCDS Summer Camp Counselors and Instructors
Experience and Education Required
  • 2 years experience with summer camps or day-camps
  • High school diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience working with children
  • Classroom or classroom-equivalent experience with elementary aged children
  • Interest and experience in STEM educational programs or activities
  • Experience in classroom management
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated capability in planning, organizing and executing activities
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must have experience as a leader or supervisor of others
  • Ability to organize, create and lead a variety of recreational activities
  • Knowledge of leadership techniques for effectively working with staff, campers and parents
  • Sound decision maker in regard to managing risk in the field, including seeking shelter and safety during extreme and unpredictable weather
  • Ability to focus on a single task, transition quickly and multitask as needed
